More than 100 visitors attended the Clinical Research Support Center Open House earlier this month to help celebrate the new center’s grand opening, network with colleagues, and learn about the support and resources available to U of M clinical researchers and study teams.
The Clinical Research Support Center, a partnership among the U's primary clinical research service groups aimed at helping investigators and study teams more efficiently navigate the clinical research environment and advance research projects more quickly, is slated to officially open its doors next month. Attend the Open House 2 to 4pm, Sept. 4.
University of Minnesota clinical researchers and study teams can now query nearly 40 million patient records through the Accrual to Clinical Trials (ACT) Network for discovery, exploration, and validation of patient cohorts for investigator-initiated multi-site or single-site clinical trials. CTSI is the first Clinical Translational Science Award hub site—of nearly 60 across the U.S.— to implement the Accrual to Clinical Trials (ACT) Network campuswide.
The University of Minnesota’s Clinical Research Support Center (CRSC) recently opened in its space on third floor Diehl Hall and will begin supporting University of Minnesota faculty conducting clinical research during its soft launch phase over the summer.
CTSI recently debuted lower rates and a more flexible rate structure for University of Minnesota investigators using CTSI’s Biorepository & Laboratory Services (BLS) for collecting, processing, and distributing de-identified human specimens.
“When we’ve partnered with CTSI to create a recruitment mailing list, we have had cases where our phones ring non-stop with callers interested in joining our study. One of our studies even doubled enrollment, virtually overnight.”
- Rebecca Brown, MSN, MS, RN, a clinical research coordinator with the School of Nursing
In addition to histology, immunohistochemistry and digital imaging services, CTSI’s Biological Materials Procurement Network (BioNet) tissue procurement facility provides researchers with high-quality tissue procurement services in compliance with best industry practices and current regulations.
As the new year begins, we want to remind University of Minnesota researchers about the recruitment policies in place. Policies are owned by Fairview Health Services, and supported by the University of Minnesota. To ensure compliance with Minnesota law and respect patient decisions, researchers who wish to recruit Fairview patients for research should know the following:
The University of Minnesota, in partnership with Fairview Health Services, has strengthened the integration between the OnCore clinical trial management system (CTMS) and Epic, Fairview’s electronic health record.
The Clinics and Surgery Center “Discovery Experience” includes creating patient awareness about research opportunities at the University through monitors with research messaging and StudyFinder kiosks stationed throughout the building, and includes embedding research into the entire patient experience and workflows, with the ultimate goal of increasing study participation and the number of clinical trials.
