Accelerating discoveries
Accelerating research has become more important than ever in the face of a global pandemic. By creating a model that meets the need for speed, the Clinical Research Support Center (CRSC) can hasten the development of therapeutics—not just for one candidate, but for COVID-19 treatments being developed across UMN.
Shortly after healthcare system M Health Fairview converted Bethesda into a COVID-19 hospital, they teamed up with CTSI. Together, the partners built a robust infrastructure for COVID-19 research, pursuing innovative ways to engage Bethesda patients in the research process and optimize the way studies are conducted.
Glenn Simmons Jr., PhD, is co-leading an effort to test wastewater across Minnesota. This would help scientists and public health officials see how prevalent the virus is in a given community and understand where the virus is spiking or trending downward.
CTSI’s Office of Discovery and Translation issues the 7th Translational Product Development Fund RFA funding cycle to support projects that advance research discoveries towards commercializable products. Apply now for support for projects on the path to form a start-up or license agreement, and focused on product development.
CTSI Biomedical Informatics Program (BMIP) delivers new support to three health sciences departments
CTSI’s Best Practices Integrated Informatics Core (BPIC) team, which is a part of BMIP, welcomes three new data analysts who will be fully dedicated to serving the clinical data needs of researchers, clinicians and leaders within their assigned areas.
CTSI and CMRR are announcing a joint conference that will appeal to clinical investigators who currently use or anticipate using ultra-high field imaging in their clinical practice, individuals with interests in the clinical application of ultra-high field imaging, and early career investigators with a dual interest in ultra-high field imaging and the management of a particular clinical problem.
Through a targeted funding opportunity, the CTSI’s Office of Discovery and Translation has selected four UMN projects to receive funding and guidance. Congratulations to the awardees!
Researchers from the University of Minnesota and community are expanding upon work done during the Immigrant Microbiome Project that was partially funded by CTSI in 2015. The project identified changes in gut microbiomes in immigrant Hmong and Karen women living in Minnesota and Thailand to potentially uncover why there is a shift or decline in their health once immigrants are living in the United States.
CTSI recognizes the work of clinical research professionals, researchers through Clinical Trials Day
CTSI joins the world-wide celebration May 20 to recognize Clinical Trials Day to honor those who are at the forefront of conducting and raising awareness of clinical trials across the health sciences and throughout the University of Minnesota to improve health.
Nearly 80 technology innovators, clinicians, investors, academics and members of the medical device industry gathered in April to better understand academic-industry relationship barriers and catalysts for innovation during the fifth annual Pediatric Device Breakthrough Collaborative event.
