One way CTSI and The Pediatric Device Innovation Consortium (PDIC) have teamed up to advance rare disease research is by supporting the efforts of Dr. Kyriakie Sarafoglou, as she explores better ways to help children with adrenal insufficiency.
Kids with this rare condition lack intrinsic steroid production, so simple childhood illnesses can cause them to get very sick and even become life-threatening.
There’s a new funding opportunity for University of Minnesota researchers developing diagnostics and treatments for rare diseases, thanks to the recent release of an RFA from CTSI’s Translational Grant Program. CTSI anticipates funding up to two projects, with each project receiving as much as $50,000 in direct costs for one year.
CTSI has released a new RFA for the Translational Product Development Fund, which supports projects that have the potential to be commercialized, such as projects that may lead to the formation of a start-up company or execution of a license agreement with an established commercial entity.
CTSI will provide up to 10 undergraduate students and up to five doctoral-level students opportunities in its summer 2017 research career development programs; apply by January 19, 2017.
CTSI's Pediatric Device Development Award Program, which supports the development of pediatric medica devices to improve pediatric outcomes and quality of life, is expanding to now accepting applications continuously throughout the year.
CTSI awards $150,000 in pilot funding for two projects that successfully completed Stage 1 of CTSI's Clinical and Translational Research Services (CTRS) Pilot Funding Program. Projects advancing to Stage 2 will work toward the planning and successful implementation of clinical and intervention pilot studies.
Researchers from the University of Minnesota and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota are collaborating on a study that explores a new approach for connecting food insecure families with food and nutrition resources, thanks to funding from CTSI, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, and the University’s Department of Pediatrics.
Department of Pediatrics Assistant Professor Andrew Barnes, MD, MPH, will represent the University of Minnesota’s CTSI as part of the Child Health Research Acceleration thru Multi-site Planning (CHAMP) program, an effort within the Clinical and Translational Science Award network.
CTSI, the Pediatric Device Innovation Consortium (PDIC), and its academic partner, Philadelphia Pediatric Medical Device Consortium (PPDC), hosted more than 70 industry and faculty researchers at an inaugural Pediatric Device Breakthrough Collaborative event earlier this month.
“Initial funding from CTSI led to a nearly three-million-dollar NIH grant to advance our research. CTSI’s support enabled us to demonstrate the effectiveness of the treatment we’re investigating, and that further studies on the topic could be feasible, particularly in terms of attracting enough research participants.”
