Medical device innovators come together to discuss pediatric health, medical technology
Medical device industry representatives, innovators, clinicians, and investors recently attended the fourth annual Pediatric Device Breakthrough Collaborative event designed to bring together a diverse group of innovators with a common goal to improve pediatric health and medical technology.

60 attendees representing academic institutions, industry-based companies, healthcare organizations, and nonprofits came together earlier this month to explore strategies to discover unmet needs and opportunities for pediatric medical device innovation. The event featured speakers, panel members who specialize in areas of problem and solution validation, and a poster session during a networking reception.
“This year we focused the event on the importance of engaging customers throughout the innovation process; whether that be patients, parents, clinicians, purchasing organization or payors. Successful medical device innovation meets the needs of all stakeholders. This is an aspect of medical device design that is often under appreciated and impacts patient access to and benefit from medical technology,” said Gwenyth Fischer, MD, Assistant Professor, Clinical Advisor for the Medical Devices Center, and director of the Pediatric Device Innovation Consortium (PDIC).
The event is a component of an ongoing Pediatric Device Breakthrough Collaborative Funding Program offered through CTSI’s Office of Discovery and Translation (ODAT) and the Pediatric Device Innovation Consortium and supports collaborative pediatric device innovation between academic researchers, clinicians, and service providers within the community and industry.
The event was hosted by PDIC, supported by CTSI, and held in conjunction with the Design of Medical Devices conference.
