Clinical research facility changes

In October 2017, several changes were announced regarding clinical research facilities, including:

  • The opening of a Phase I clinical research unit in in the Phillips-Wangensteen Building on November 20, called the University of Minnesota Health Clinical Research Unit (M Health CRU).

  • Management of the Delaware Clinical Research Unit (DCRU) is shifting to the Academic Health Center’s Research Building Management Services (RBMS).

  • The Masonic Clinical Research Unit (MCRU) is vacating the Masonic Memorial Building (MMB) in November 2017. Current MCRU users should work with CTSI to determine whether participant visits should be redirected to the University of Minnesota Health Clinical Research Unit (“Phase 1” unit opening Nov. 20) or the Delaware Clinical Research Unit.

  • The Lillehei Clinical Research Unit (LCRU) is relocating from the Mayo Memorial Building, and will be adjacent to the new University of Minnesota Health Clinical Research Unit on PWB-1 (Phillips-Wangensteen Building).

  • Existing budgets will be honored. Space charges -- which have not been finalized -- for all clinical research locations will apply for new studies and/or “new arms” or extensions of existing studies that involve re-budgeting.

  • MCRU and DCRU clinical staff will convert their HR home to University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP) and become UMP staff; thus, clinical services in the University of Minnesota Health Clinical Research Unit will be provided by UMP clinical staff. Please note this transition is for clinical staff only, not all CTSI staff.
