Tools and Resources
The Biostats4you website was developed to serve medical and public health researchers and professionals who wish to learn more about biostatistics. The site contains carefully selected and vetted training materials especially suited for a non-statistician audience. This site is being developed and maintained by members of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Special Interest Group (BERD SIG) of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS).
The site is hosted by the University of Minnesota’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), led by their BERD group, the Biostatistical Design and Analysis Center (BDAC).
This resource is a read-only Excel workbook with 25 worksheets, each labeled as “Tip #”. Each tip illustrates one or more important aspects of data entry. The author shows the “Good” way to enter data juxtaposed with a “Bad” way to enter data. The resource is easily accessible to clinicians and is particularly helpful by actually showing examples of what is good and what is bad. A box is provided on each worksheet briefly explaining the good and the bad.
Note: BDAC strongly encourages researchers to use a proper database such as REDCap, but if you must use spreadsheets such as Excel, then this resource will be helpful.
