2014 Undergraduate Research Program

The Undergraduate Research Program (URP) provides undergraduate students with knowledge, skills, and experience in translational science and health equity research through a structured core curriculum including mentored research projects, weekly research seminars, small group discussions, and a final poster to present research findings at the Annual University of Minnesota CTSI Poster Session held in Fall 2014.

It also provides an opportunity for students from populations under-represented in research (see page 3 of the RFA for the NIH definition) to begin or advance their research career. Opportunities for travel funds to participate in national scientific meetings will be awarded on a competitive basis.

The cornerstone of the research training program is the scholar’s participation in a research project under the direct supervision of a University of Minnesota faculty mentor active in health equity or minority health research. With input and oversight by the faculty mentor, the scholars will design a research-training plan, according to his or her career interests and the mentor’s ongoing research programs.

Scholars will also participate in weekly group seminars and networking activities organized by the program throughout the summer. This program is jointly administered by CTSI and the Center for Health Equity (CHE).
