Community
CTSI's main goal is to improve the health of our communities through clinical translational science research. We are committed to working with communities to achieve this and are establishing the Office of Community Engagement for Health.
Our goals are to:
- Establish a unifying transformative framework of engaged scholarship to strengthen mutual trust and respect between UMN and community and to increase their research collaborations.
- Establish mechanisms to increase respectful and reciprocal use of research knowledge and resources.
- Increase engaged scholarship, wherein researchers work collaboratively with community partners to identify researchable problems that matter to the community and then coproduce relevant knowledge.
- Increase dissemination and implementation of research results that matter to the community.
We define the communities to be engaged broadly, and include: 1) special populations of diverse race, ethnicity, country of origin, socioeconomic status, age group, gender, and geographic location; 2) civic, community-based, and faith-based organizations; 3) public sector agencies engaged in health promotion and disease prevention; 4) healthcare organizations and professionals; 5) policy makers; and 6) the general public.
We have also established a Community University Board to provide direction and operational oversight, expertise, and assistance to the CTSI director and the senior vice president for health sciences.
